Part 2 — The Woman Who Died

The street went silent.

Madeline stared at him as tears filled her eyes.

“You remember me…”

The homeless man took another step back.

Fragments kept crashing into his mind.

Rain pouring over a bridge.

Hands covered in blood.

Emily crying.

Someone shouting:

“Push the car!”

He grabbed his head.

“No… no…”

The older man rushed forward.

“Get him away from her!”

Two men jumped out of the SUV.

But Madeline suddenly stood between them.

“No!”

Everyone around them kept recording.

The homeless man looked directly at the older man.

Then his eyes widened.

Another memory hit him.

That face.

Not a stranger.

Not just her father.

He remembered seeing him on that night.

Standing beside the burning car.

Watching.

Smiling.

His voice shook.

“You said… we both died.”

The older man’s face lost all color.

Madeline slowly turned toward him.

“What did he just say?”

Silence.

Then the homeless man whispered:

“You didn’t save us…”

His eyes locked onto the older man’s face.

“You were the reason the car went off that bridge.”

Madeline stopped breathing.

Because for the first time in five years…

she realized the wrong person had been hiding the truth all along.
