Part 2 : Martin slowly touched the old shoe.

“Evan?”

The man nodded.

Then he placed a thick folder on the counter.

Martin didn’t open it.

“I don’t understand.”

Evan’s eyes filled with tears.

“You never knew what happened after I left your shop.”

That night, Evan had gone home to a freezing apartment where his mother was sick and their landlord was threatening to throw them onto the street.

Inside the repaired shoe, Evan had discovered something Martin had secretly hidden beneath the insole.

Money.

Far more than the two coins Evan had offered him.

Martin immediately looked away.

“You weren’t supposed to know that was me.”

Evan swallowed hard.

“That money kept the heat on. It bought my mother medicine. It bought us another month.”

Martin’s eyes filled with tears.

“But that’s not why I’m here.”

He opened the folder.

Martin froze.

Inside were the legal documents to the building.

PAID IN FULL.

Martin looked up in shock.

“What did you do?”

Evan pushed the papers toward him.

“You saved my family when nobody else cared whether we survived.”

Then Evan smiled through his tears.

“You told me I’d already given you something better than money.”

He placed the same two old coins beside the shoe.

“So I kept my promise.”

Martin broke down.

But Evan still had one final surprise waiting outside.

Because the luxury car wasn’t the only thing parked in front of the shop.

Behind it stood dozens of people.

And every one of them had come because Martin had quietly helped them when they had nothing.
