Andrew stepped in front of Claire.
Rose stared at the man she had believed was dead for more than three decades.
Daniel smiled faintly.
“Hello, Rose.”
Rose’s voice shook.
“You destroyed my life.”
Daniel looked almost amused.
“No.”
He pointed toward the open metal box.
“William did.”
Andrew snapped:
“My father thought she was dead because of you.”
Daniel looked at him.
“You still call him your father?”
Andrew froze.
Daniel continued:
“Interesting.”
Claire grabbed Andrew’s arm.
“Don’t listen to him.”
Daniel walked toward the table.
Rose said:
“Stay away.”
Daniel stopped.
Then looked at the letter.
“You found William’s little insurance policy.”
Andrew stepped forward.
“You’re my biological father?”
Daniel didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
Andrew stared at him.
“Did my mother know?”
Daniel laughed softly.
“Patricia knew everything.”
Andrew’s face hardened.
“Everything?”
“Everything.”
Rose interrupted.
“Why fake my death?”
Daniel finally looked at her.
“Because William wouldn’t sell the company.”
Rose frowned.
Daniel explained.
Their father had left both brothers equal shares.
But William controlled voting rights.
Daniel needed him gone.
Not dead.
Just terrified enough to disappear.
So Daniel created the fake accident.
Paid a hospital employee.
Switched the identification bracelet.
And convinced William that Rose had died.
Then he convinced Rose that William had abandoned her.
Two lies.
Two lives destroyed.
Rose whispered:
“And Patricia?”
Daniel smiled.
“She wanted William.”
Andrew looked sick.
Daniel continued:
“She helped me.”
Claire asked:
“What about Andrew?”
Daniel looked at him.
“You were never part of the original plan.”
Andrew’s jaw tightened.
“What does that mean?”
Daniel sighed.
“Your mother and I made one mistake.”
Andrew stared.
“You.”
The word landed like a punch.
Rose looked at Andrew.
Daniel continued:
“Patricia got pregnant.”
“She told William the baby was his?”
“Yes.”
Andrew turned away.
Claire stayed beside him.
Daniel said:
“William loved you immediately.”
Andrew looked back.
“So why didn’t you claim me?”
Daniel laughed.
“Because I didn’t want a son.”
Rose looked disgusted.
“You’re a monster.”
Daniel’s smile vanished.
“No, Rose. I was protecting what belonged to me.”
“What belonged to you?”
“The company.”
Andrew stared.
“What company?”
Daniel pointed toward William’s old papers.
“Hayes Construction.”
Andrew shook his head.
“That company went bankrupt.”
Daniel smiled again.
“No.”
He reached into his coat and removed a modern corporate prospectus.
HAYES URBAN DEVELOPMENT — $1.8 BILLION PORTFOLIO
Andrew froze.
The company had never collapsed.
It had been renamed.
Expanded.
Hidden behind shell corporations.
Daniel had built an empire using the assets he stole from William.
Rose looked at the document.
“All these years…”
Daniel nodded.
“William never knew.”
Andrew looked at him.
“Why are you here now?”
Daniel’s expression changed.
“Because the locker contains one document I need.”
Rose glanced at the box.
“What document?”
Daniel pointed toward a sealed brown folder.
Andrew grabbed it first.
Daniel’s face hardened.
“Give me that.”
Andrew opened it.
Inside was the original corporate ownership agreement.
And a clause nobody expected.
If either brother committed fraud against the company—
his entire ownership stake automatically transferred to the other brother.
Andrew stared.
Daniel said:
“That document is meaningless.”
Rose shook her head.
“No.”
Claire read the signatures.
“It was notarized.”
Daniel stepped closer.
Andrew held it away.
“If this is real, William owns everything.”
Daniel smiled coldly.
“Only if William is alive.”
Everyone froze.
Rose whispered:
“What did you do?”
Daniel said nothing.
Andrew immediately called his father.
No answer.
Again.
Nothing.
Claire checked the time.
William had called them only minutes earlier.
Andrew looked at Daniel.
“What did you do?”
Daniel finally said:
“You should never have opened that locker.”
Andrew lunged forward, but Rose grabbed him.
“Stop.”
Sirens sounded outside.
Daniel’s expression changed.
He turned toward the door.
Claire looked surprised.
“Police?”
Rose shook her head.
“No.”
She held up her phone.
“I called them when he walked in.”
Daniel stared at her.
For the first time, he looked nervous.
The warehouse doors opened.
Two detectives entered.
But they weren’t alone.
Behind them—
William Hayes stepped inside.
Alive.
Daniel froze.
Andrew stared.
“Dad?”
William looked directly at his brother.
Daniel whispered:
“How?”
William held up his phone.
“Because I heard everything.”
Andrew frowned.
William pointed to the phone Andrew had dropped earlier.
The call had never disconnected.
Daniel had confessed while William listened.
A detective stepped forward.
“Daniel Hayes, you’re under arrest.”
Daniel laughed.
“For what?”
William answered:
“Fraud.”
Rose added:
“Kidnapping.”
Then another voice came from behind them.
“And murder.”
Everyone turned.
An elderly woman entered with a cane.
Rose recognized her.
She had worked at the hospital forty years ago.
The nurse who had identified Rose’s fake body.
Daniel’s face turned gray.
The woman pointed at him.
“He paid me to change the bracelet.”
Daniel said nothing.
She continued:
“But that woman wasn’t already dead.”
The room went silent.
Rose whispered:
“What?”
The nurse looked at Daniel.
“She was alive when he brought her in.”
Andrew stared.
“Who was she?”
The nurse’s eyes filled.
“A young woman named Sarah Cole.”
Claire gasped.
“My mother’s maiden name was Cole.”
Everyone turned toward her.
Claire looked terrified.
Rose stared at her.
“Claire… what was your grandmother’s name?”
Claire swallowed.
“Sarah.”
Daniel stepped backward.
Andrew looked at Claire.
Claire looked at the photograph in the box.
Then at Daniel.
The nurse whispered:
“Sarah survived.”
Daniel snapped:
“That’s impossible.”
The woman shook her head.
“No.”
“She woke up three days later.”
Daniel’s face changed.
Rose asked:
“Where is she?”
The nurse looked toward the doorway.
An elderly woman was standing there.
Claire covered her mouth.
“Grandma?”
Sarah Cole walked into the warehouse.
She looked directly at Daniel.
Then said:
“You buried the wrong woman.”
Daniel went completely still.
Sarah continued:
“And I remember everything.”
